What is Commit's success rate? It takes our engineers 1.2 pilots to join a company full time on average - they're not looking to bounce between multiple projects. 87% of our pilots turn into full-time employment agreements.

What types of engineers does Commit hire? Commit hires ****intermediate and senior fullstack engineers. A small subset of our talent pool have DevOps, CI/CD, or Architecture experience. Our engineers come from Amazon, Hootsuite, EA, SkipTheDishes, etc.

Why do engineers join Commit? Engineers join Commit because we de-risk their job transition process; every engineer we hire wants to move into a full-time role at a startup, and appreciates Commit's support in vetting startups. You can read more about our value for engineers here.

How does Commit find and vet engineers? Our engineers are nominated by existing community members who have shipped code alongside them and think they're exceptional. We run our own interview process before hiring the top 2% to join our team, where they contribute to our internal codebase and open source initiatives before joining you.

Commit's Interviewing Process

How does a Commit Engineer fit into our existing interviewing process?

Commit has put our engineers through a technical vetting process to save you time and effort. We facilitate 60-minute Zoom conversations with the candidates you want to meet. The focus is to get to know the engineer's skill set and experiences, and ensure a good fit for your team. Our EPs do not expect a technical component in their interview with you and are not actively going through technical interviews at other organizations.

You can see a full summary of the rules of interviewing Commit engineers here.

Can my startup leverage Commit for part-time or contract work? No. All of Commit's engineers are looking to join a startup full time after the pilot period.

What to expect from working with Commit

How does vacation work during the pilot?

Allowing reasonable vacation time is part of a startup treating an EP as its employee. If the vacation time is disproportionate to the length of the pilot period (so more than 2.5 days over a 3-month period), we would downwardly adjust the monthly charge for the applicable invoice.

IP Ownership Your company will own all code and documentation that is built for you by Commit engineers, and your company will have all the IP rights required to use, develop, and commercialize these deliverables in perpetuity (including upon acquisition, if and when that happens).

SRED (πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ startups only) Canadian companies are eligible to claim SRED for the work that a Commit engineer does for your company. During the pilot, you can access SRED at the contractor rate, and once they join you full-time, you can claim SRED with them as an employee.

**Corporate Structure (**πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ startups only) US Companies don't need a Canadian subsidiary to get started with a Commit engineer. During the three-month pilot period, Commit will manage taxes, payroll and benefits so you can focus on shipping code. We're here to help advise you on when it's time to create a Canadian subsidiary, how to go about setting one up, and how to employ one or a few Canadians until a subsidiary makes sense. Corporate structure is never a blocker to bringing a Commit engineer onboard for a pilot, or full-time.
