Step One: Business Review Sarah (who leads Startup Partnerships) will answer questions you have about Commit, and similarly get to know your company, team, culture, and the role you're hiring for.

<aside> ⏱️ Day 1: This takes ~30 minutes and is typically the first interaction you'll have with Commit.

Step Two: Align on Commit's Terms If there's a mutual fit, we'll share an LOI customized to the specific individual(s) you're looking to hire. There is no obligation on your part to move forward with a pilot after signing this document.

<aside> ⏱️ Day 1: You'll receive this LOI by the end of the day after your Business Review conversation with Anastasia.

Step Three: Technical Review We'll drill deeper into your overall team and engineering culture. This information informs the data room that we build on your startup and share with our engineers. We believe potential hires should have the same depth of data as they evaluate joining a startup that a company's potential investors have - we'll build this out alongside you.

Right now we don't have functionality for you to export your data room for use outside Commit, but you can build your own based on our template.

<aside> ⏱️ Day 3-4: Your tech lead will have a 30-minute conversation with Anastasia, where she'll gather all the information she needs to build your profile while vetting your organization. We'll try to book this call within 2-3 days (and are increasingly doing this asynchronously to save you time). If approved, you can expect your profile to be drafted within 24 hours of that conversation, and you'll receive a link to review and edit the backend data for your profile.

Step Four: Matchmaking Louisa is your connection with potential engineers. She will send you anonymized candidates based on your role, tech stack, and cultural values. As you review these bios, you can opt-in for an interview, or pass on the candidate (feedback appreciated!)

<aside> ⏱️ Day 5: Your profile will go live as soon as you've signed off on your profile data, and we will send you engineers as we find good matches. We onboard new cohorts of engineers every two weeks.

Step Five: Interviews Commit has put our engineers through a technical vetting process to save you time and effort. You can see details on what's included in our interviewing process, as well as what we share with you here.

Louisa will help you set up 60 minute Zoom conversations with the candidates you want to meet. The focus is to get to know the engineer's skill set and experience, and ensure a good fit for your team. Our EPs do not expect a technical component in their interview with you and are not actively going through technical interviews at other organizations.

For this conversation, we recommend no more than four individuals attend from your startup; the smaller the number, the more intimate the conversation. We recommend you include: the engineering manager (typically the CTO or VP Eng), up to two peers that this individual would be working with, and potentially the business co-founder, depending on company stage and how closely this engineer will work with them.

See our tips for preparing Commit engineers for your interview.

If you have any concerns or doubts at the end of this conversation that you think could be answered with more information, reach out to Louisa, and we can work with you to fill in the missing pieces. If you feel strongly about conducting your own technical interview after your initial conversation, we will put your request to the engineer, and will support their decision to either continue with you or focus on the other Commit-style interviews they have lined up.

<aside> ⏱️ Day 5 onward: Interviews are conducting on a rolling basis. Commit will be included on all communication to help set up the meeting. Our engineers have flexible schedules to meet on your terms.

Step Six: Initiate a pilot Should you both like the other, then this becomes an opportunity for you (and our engineers) to try this relationship out risk-free for three months. You don't have to commit to bringing an engineer on full-time unless you see a long-term fit at the end of the trial.

See our tips for onboarding your Commit engineer.

<aside> ⏱️ Day 5 onward: You will only be meeting engineers who are ready to start their next pilot within the next 2 weeks.

</aside>

Step Seven: Hire or initiate another pilot As you're approaching the end of the pilot, we'll check in with both you and the engineer to understand if you see a fit in a full-time role. 87% of our pilots have graduated to hires.

Commit can help support you in setting up a Canadian subsidiary, acting as PEO, or advising on how to set the engineer up as a contractor.

If one or both parties aren't interested in moving forward, we can work with you to surface more potential engineers to initiate another pilot.
